The ever changing weather didn’t do much to deter the hundreds of kids who turned out to take part in the first (hopefully!) annual ‘all about Barrhead’ Easter Egg Hunt.

Managed by the local business improvement district, which is funded by all 149 local businesses in the town centre, the day saw over 150 chocolate eggs dished out to hunters scouring the town for ‘Golden Tickets’, following clues posted on social media.

Enthusiastic children (and adults!) sprinted from one end of the town to the other to pick up one of these prized tickets, which could be exchanged for all manner of prizes – including gift bags, lunches, blow drys and even £50 in cash kindly donated by the Brig Inn which was won by lucky youngster, Cailin McIntosh.

BID Manager, Andy Dunlop, said “As this was the first year of running an event like this we weren’t sure what to expect, but we were blown away by the response – people were so enthusiastic for the event that they were finding tickets without the need for the clues we were posting to Facebook!

“My highlight was watching around 30 kids run into the Foundry at once to search for a ticket I had hidden in a book in the library.

BID Chair, Paul Santi, was also thrilled with the turnout. “It was great to see the town so busy right from the start of the event and the majorty of them really getting into the spirit of it. page1image15784 page1image15944

“This is just the start of things for the BID. We really hope to host more events and projects that bring the community together and makes Barrhead a positive place to work, live and shop.”

Some businesses went out of their way to ensure no child left empty handed with Bickets, F&M Hairdressers and Catherine Rose Cake Design all dishing out chocolates to those who had just missed out on finding tickets.

Andy Dunlop added, “Seeing so many smiling faces on the day made it all worthwhile and hopefully sets us up nicely for the Barrhead Rainbow Run in the Summer.

“The community spirit was great to see and we hope we can continue to grow on that.”
