Bucket Loads of Fun in Barrhead!

Bucket Loads of Fun in Barrhead!

The Barrhead BID, All About Barrhead, have teamed up with Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity and ‘Oor Wullie’s Big Bucket Trail’ to bring some life size art to the town during the Barrhead Rainbow Run and beyond!

The Business Improvement District team, who are also responsible for the Rainbow Run, have sponsored TWO of the life-size sculptures, which will live in the town from 17 June until 30 August. There will also be a chance to get a sneak peek at another two of the sculptures, with a very specially commissioned golden ‘Oor Wullie’ welcoming guests to the sold out All About Barrhead Awards on 31 May and the “Oor ‘Hospital Hero’ Wullie”, painted by the brave young patients and staff of Glasgow Children’s Hospital at the Rainbow Run on Saturday 15 June, welcoming participants at the finish line to take a celebratory selfie.

The Big Bucket Trail will see over 200 of the sculptures dotted across Scotland in the five main host cities of Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee, Aberdeen and Inverness – with Barrhead now joining that list!

BID Chair, Paul Santi, said “We’re thrilled to be able to bring part of the biggest public art trail in the country to Barrhead. Our aim is to drive more visitors to the town to showcase everything good about Barrhead.”

“As we’re seeing with the All About Barrhead Awards nominations, which take place on 31 May, there are so many amazing things in the town and they deserve to be celebrated and recognised.”
Oor Wullie was also on hand to help launch the new-look medals for the BID’s ‘Barrhead Rainbow Run’, which feature a brilliant paint-splash design. The medals will be awarded to everyone who completes one of the three course lengths on the day.

BID Manager, Andy Dunlop, said “As the Rainbow Run just keeps getting bigger and better each year, we knew we had to reflect that in this years medals. They look amazing and feel great too. To be able to launch them with this iconic ‘Oor Wullie’ sculpture just tied in brilliantly too.”

“Not only that, we were lucky enough to photograph ‘Wullie’ outside St. Enoch Subway station, where you’ll be able to see some of our huge Rainbow Run posters on the platform and in the carriages over the coming weeks. This year’s Rainbow Run is really gearing up to be the biggest and best yet!”

The Barrhead Rainbow Run is a ‘fun run’ through the parks in Barrhead Town Centre, but whilst you make your way round the course, you’ll have to battle your way through an army style assault course and tackle at least five inflatables along the way! You’re going to need to get up and over the biggest inflatable of the lot before you can make your way across the finish line!

Prepare to get wet, because you’ll also be wading through an inflatable foam pit, with more foam than you can imagine! That’s not all, as you’ll be battling to stay on your feet and not wipe out on the way down!

Tickets for the All About Barrhead Awards and the Barrhead Rainbow Run are on sale now. Visit allaboutbarrhead.co.uk or @allaboutbarrhead on social media for all the information.
