  • D Moodie and Co was first opened in 1911 by Donald Moodie. The Paton family has owned the business since 1946, but prior to that worked within the company.

Historically, in Barrhead, ‘undertaking’ was carried out by local joiners who dealt with the arrangements, the deceased and the coffin, but hired in staff and vehicles from D Moodie and Co. Over the years D Moodie and Co has evolved from car repairs, petrol station, private hire taxis, and helping at funerals to what it is today – a family owned and run funeral directors now in the third generation of the Paton family.

In 1999, the company was expanded and opened an office on Glasgow Road, Paisley – Kelburne Funeral Home.

In 2006, D Moodie and Co won the “Golden Charter National Funeral Planner of the Year” award. This award was judged over the whole of the UK for independent funeral directors who offer Golden Charter funeral plans. It was a great honour for the company to be chosen for this award.

Our premises in Cross Arthurlie Street, Barrhead have adapted to the changing business. Many years ago, Moodies was the paraffin seller of the town, many people still go into the office and comment on going into Moodies for pumped paraffin, with the long shop counter when you came in the door, offering amongst other things, light bulbs, batteries, torches, fuses and not forgetting the cycle puncture repair outfits.

The premises have had to adapt over the years as the business changed and are now totally dedicated funeral facilities, with a larger garage at the rear to keep the fleet of Mercedes E class funeral vehicles used each day.

The team at D Moodie and Co is dedicated to providing a high quality service to the community and will do their best to ensure that every family receives the best level of care when they need it most.
