The Big Barrhead Christmas Lights Switch On took place on Saturday 3rd December 2016 and was a great success. The event was the first large event to be organised and paid for by the businesses and organisations within Barrhead Town Centre through the new Business Improvement District. We hope both businesses and visitors to the area had a profitable and enjoyable day and enjoy the run down of what went on and the photos from the event below.
A wide range of fun events and activities kept visitors entertained throughout the day from 1pm until 6pm.
The square in front of Asda on Main Street held the entertainment stage, hosted by Pulse FM and with a number of fantastic acts including Sam Callaghan and Ginny and the Tonic. There was a fantastic Christmas Market, with stalls from Country Feeds Pet Supplies & Pet Parlour Professional Grooming, Penman Designs, Threepwood Fayre and Le Wooden Toy! Guide Dogs Scotland were there with their sensory trailer and Hoots Owls & Wedding Wings presented their amazing birds.
The Christmas Tree lights were switched on by none other than Santa, who arrived in a Parade from his Grotto on Cochrane Street along Cross Arthurlie St and onto Main St, accompanied by the wonderful young dancers fromGillian Anderson Dance School and the 3rd Barrhead and District Pipe Band.
The corner of Cochrane Street and Cross Arthurlie Street also had a new Buskers Corner with a range of local acts, and the children enjoyed Pony Rides along Levern Walkway.
Many people got involved in The Big Barrhead Elf Hunt, where they searched for 8 elves in the shop windows around the Town Centre in exchange for a selection box.
With 250,000 impressions about the event on social media and 5645 visits into the town centre on the day, there was a positive impact on Barrhead being a great place to live, work and visit.
